I’m a writer and editor. My novels include The Danish Girl, which won a Lambda Literary Award and was adapted into an Oscar-winning film, and the #1 bestseller The 19th Wife, which was adapted into a television movie. I’m Editor-in-Chief of Hogarth Books, Random House’s boutique literary imprint, and an Executive Editor at Random House. I love stories and writers and words.

In 2017 the New York Times named The Danish Girl one of the 25 Books that Have Shaped LGBTQ Literature over the Past 20 Years. Alicia Vikander won an Academy Award for her role in the film adaptation. My books have been translated into more than thirty languages. Twice Out magazine has twice featured me on its annual Out 100 list of the most impactful LGBT people for my work in the literary world. My life is pretty much all about books and stories.
