Welcome. I’m the author of The Danish Girl, The Rose City, and Pasadena. My most recent novel is the New York Times bestseller The 19th Wife. For many years I’ve been a book editor at Random House and have taught at Columbia University.

In November 2015 Focus Features is releasing an adaptation of The Danish Girl starring Academy Award-winner Eddie Redmayne and directed by the Academy Award-winning director of The King’s SpeechTom HooperThe 19th Wife was made into a television movie that continues to air around the world. I’ve appeared on Out Magazine‘s annual Out 100 list of influential LGBT people twice. My books have been translated into twenty languages and honored by the the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Lambda Literary Foundation, and the American Library Association. I’ve taught writing at Princeton, NYU, and Columbia and I’m currently Vice President and Executive Editor at Random House. As you probably can tell, stories are my life.
